Matthew 6:33
Have you ever felt bound by rules that made it hard to do what was right? In today’s story, we see Jesus encounter a woman who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. He heals her on the Sabbath, a day when Jewish law traditionally prohibits work. Watching her transformation, the religious leaders focus more on their rulebook than on her freedom, accusing Jesus of breaking the Sabbath law. Jesus, however, reminds them—and us—that God’s heart is not bound by rules but led by love and mercy. He points out that true observance of God’s commands brings freedom, not restriction. What if our worship focused less on obligation and more on compassion? Like Jesus, we’re invited to reach for God and prioritize love that heals and restores, even when it means challenging tradition. How might we embrace this kind of freedom today?
